Some things are perpetually in style, and for Crescent Hardwood Supply, hardwood flooring is one of them. For over a century, the Troendle family has been an integral part of the flooring industry in the Gulf South. Today, current president John Troendle is the third generation to operate the family business started by his grandfather, George A. Troendle, in 1918.

George A. Troendle recognized the enduring nature of wood following an injury sustained during World War I. While recovering in a French hospital, he watched hospital staff manually scrape old oak floors clean using a primitive method, and thought there had to be an easier way. After returning home, George — together with his father, a machinist who had emigrated from Germany to New Orleans — built what is believed to be the city's first DC-volt sanding machine. From that venture, Crescent Hardwood Supply and Troendle Flooring were born.

Following tradition, his sons Billy, Roy Sr., and George R. each took turns operating the business until George R.'s formal retirement after World War II, when George R. became sole owner until 1990. Today, George R.'s son John and his wife Lisa operate the family business, with Roy Jr., son of Roy Sr., serving as general manager until his retirement in 2018. We're a wholesale house, not a retail floor — our customers are the installers, flooring contractors, and flooring dealers who put the wood down, and we do not sell to the general public.
